As promised!

Here’s a painting of Jharias I’m currently working on. I don’t really like his hair, so I’ll be changing that, but I had a lot of fun working with such a stylized drawing.

Aaand this here is the start of a new project I’m doing, where I’ll doodle an OC a day to keep in practice. This would be Ryan.

For now, that’s all I’ve got for presentable things; the rest I’ve either already posted and am still working on, or are in such a sketchy stage that I dare not post it.

Hey all!

Sorry for all the WoW art lately. I have plenty of original works that I’m currently working on, but in the meantime they’re taking second place to commissions. Which, speaking of, I did some more work on the piece for Peppygrowlithe and now have the inks + most of the flats down. This one is probably going to take me a bit longer just because it is sooooo huge! The original sketch file width was around 20,000px, but now has been shrunk to 10,000 (about twice the width I normally work in). Yoikes.

Here’s what I’ve got! Remember, you can click the image twice to see the detail shots.

commission-peppygrowlithe-flats-beginningI’m trying to think of how I can get more commissions for original characters, but I’m not entirely sure where I’d advertise for that. I might ask Alex1ds what she does, since I look up to her a lot (and she gets lots of OC commissions!). If any of you have any suggestions, too, I’d love to hear them. =)

Hey all!

I know I was doing a process show for the commission to ThistleChaser, but unfortunately I hit “save” at a bad time and can no longer go back and show you the flats and whatnot.

In the meantime, here’s a large preview of what I have so far, and two smaller tests. If ThistleChaser likes the avatars, we’ll stick with those, but if not I’ll add (a) new version(s) at the end of the post later.

Hi all! My latest customer, ThistleChaser, requested progress shots of the commission I am doing for him/her, and so here they are. Please note that this is actually an avatar commission, and the final image will be shrunk down to 100×100 pixels. In the meantime, I’m working at 800×800 just so I can ensure that I’ll have clean lines when I shrink the image.

First, I start off with some very basic shapes – usually just a circle for the head, a possible guideline for the body, and some markings for where broad shapes are going to be. Here, I’ve located the character’s head and spaulders.

Rough guides.

Next, I go through and sketch the details. Sometimes this takes multiple steps and layers, but this time I managed to hammer it out all in one.

Sketch.

I always start my lines by doing the face first, for some reason. It just seems like a good starting point (and the face is my favorite part to draw!).

Partial inks.

Partial inks.

Now that I’ve go the face and some of the hair lined out, I create a new layer and begin to ink the armor on it. This is so that I can just erase whatever lines might go under the original inking, instead of having to erase around them.

Secondary inks.

Secondary inks.

Now that I’ve got most of the picture inked, I go in and add details, fix up mistakes, etc. until I’m satisfied with everything. I usually add another layer to the inks in order to do the little detail lines on the hair, just to make things easier. Sometimes I even add a few more details to the inks while I’m coloring, because you never know what effect the colors might have on your lines.

Voila! The inks are done.

Voila! The inks are done for now.

That’s all I’ve got so far, I’ll update later when I have more work finished.

Finally opened up commissions and I got a few! They are all for WoW people, which kinda surprised me, but that’s okay. =) The money means I get to do fun things like buy art supplies and go have dinner with friends now and then. Also, it pays my gas bill.

Here’s the first one, done for TheSilentRose on deviantART:

And the second one is yet in-progress, for Peppygrowlithe on deviantART.

The last one is an avatar and is not yet started, but I’ll be sketching it tomorrow.

Hey all!

I’ve been REALLY busy drawing lately, it would seem. I’ve finished two of the character profiles and am almost done with the first page of The Seventh Hour comic. I plan on doing a profile image for every major character in the story. So far, I have Ryan Thompson, the main character and one of the few people alive who still has an Old Earth name. I forgot to add his hands and will end up making his skin a little less sallow the next time I look at this in Photoshop.

And Archen Dei, an aspiring young politician whose future is unfortunately not as grand as he hopes it will be. There are a few issues to fix in this one, as well; I’m unhappy with his hands more than anything, and I forgot the framing lines in his name panel.

And finally, here’s the progress so far on the comic. Everything is gradually coming together but I still have quite a bit to do before I finalize things. I am contemplating leaving the first panel with the painted look, and doing the rest of the comic in a more cartoony style, as I have in the other two panels. What do you all think? Should I keep the painted panel, or redo it in a more uniform style? I would of course finish his goggles, first, and fix that white burst of light.

TSH: Chapter One, Page One.

Hey all!

Just wanted to let you know that I am far from dead over here. I’ve been caught up in a tangle of other projects, video gaming, school, and work lately, but I’m going to try and put away some time this week to finish up the first page of The Seventh Hour and to start inking the character sheets I’ve been sketching away.

In the meantime, keep an eye on this page – in the next few days I should have something new up, and the summer is coming soon, so I’ll definitely have an increase in workflow once the semester ends!

If I have the patience for it, I think so, good sirs and madams.

Then you’ll love this. It’s much less dirty than it sounds, trust me. The following post is a basic rundown on how I do my work. Be prepared for terrible sketches!

To those of you who are interested in reading The Seventh Hour sometime, this post contains a major spoiler, so you might not want to look!… unless you’re one of those people.
